Description

The GMDM IOP model included a BatteryUnit, PhotovoltaicUnit, and WindPowerElectronicsUnit behind the same residential-sized inverter, i.e., behind a single PowerElectronicsConnection. While theoretically possible, none of the known power flow solvers handle this. PNNL and EPRI both implemented a “virtual battery” concept that might be considered for behind-the-meter or behind-the-inverter resources.

Decision

The issue should be part of the DER discussion
issue #6372

20-Sep-2024 Joint TF Hybrid Meetings:
Revisited this issue. Agree that this is best closed out. See below for next steps.
- Multiple DC devices behind a single inverter
- A new Redmine issue is warranted to model physical inverters behind a point of common coupling (or multiple points of common coupling)
- Action Item: Alex to create a Redmine issue summarizing the root issues in the tooling and why the revised modeling is needed.
