Description

Latest "Conformance Test Procedures for Server Devices with IEC 61850-8-1 ,Edition 2 Amendment 1 interface Revision Rev1.2" defines PTP as "Precision Time Protocol as specified in IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3".
"IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3:2016" references to PTP messages according to "IEC 61588:2009 ¦ IEEE Std 1588-2008" which is PTP version 2. So this is currently the only supported version.

Latest "IEC 61588:2021 ¦IEEE Std 1588™-2019" introduces PTP version 2 minor 1. Compatibility is discussed there in a Note:
"Note that the minorVersionPTP attribute is carried in a formerly reserved field and will therefore be ignored by PTP Instances conformant to previous editions of this standard. Since this field had the value 0 in earlier editions, it will be correctly interpreted by PTP Instances conformant to this edition"

So Edition 2.1 complaint devices should have no issues. Still, as clocks are currently available with PTPv2.1:
- Suppose formal way is to handled this in a future 9-3 and then accordingly update into testprocedures.
- Or adapt now testprocedures for CB13b, PIXIT (Svp6) with PTP version/minor.

The purpose on ongoing TF 9-3 is to issue an 9-3 Ed2 to reference and harmonize with IEC 61588:2019.

Updated by IEC 61850 TPWG 10 months ago

  • Status changed from New to Rejected

9-3 needs to be updated before TPWG can modify the TP.

This issue can be reopened when 9-3 is published.
