Description
Duplicate Analogs
In IOP 10 some models had multiple cim:Analogs of the same cim:MeasurementType attached to equipment, e.g. multiple voltage cim:Analogs at the same cim:BusbarSection. The meaning of this is not defined and shall be regarded as an error. The intent of the provider of the cimxml file was to describe different sources of values, e.g. SCADA, State Estimation etc. The constuct to use for this in the CIM is cim:AnalogValue and cim:MeasurementValueSource.
Proposed Solution
The UML shall be updated to restrict the usage of cim:Analog. A way to do this is to add specific associations for the usages from equipment to cim:Analog by spcifying the following roles at the cim:Analog side
- Voltage
- ActivePower
- ReactivePower
- ApparentPower
- Current
If this technique is used everwhere the class cim:MeasurementType can be removed as the type information now is carried by this new association. The old associaition MemberOf_PSR is kept but made navigable in one direction only (MemberOf_PSR) as the other direction now is covered by the new roles given above.

This isn't a problem in current usage of CIM. The proposed solution adds more problems than it solves.
