CIM Issues #3946
Diagram exchange. We need to review location of system elem
Description
Diagram exchange.
We need to review location of system elements -- it should be added to the core package and should not require any use of asset information. The most important aspects to describe are the real-estate occupied by stations, lines and plants. Tower locations within lines should be considered. Substation layouts should also be considered. Usage for this information is auto-generation of diagrams.
Zermatt, 2010-01-11, WG13&WG14 modelling teams: An overlap on how to describe graphics data has been identified between WG13 and WG14.
WG14 was using GML (now informative) to describe graphics. The WG13 graphics proposal was presented and discussed. It was concluded that the WG14 Location class serves many more purposes than just describing diagrams.
Gilbert showed an example of different zoom levels. A diagram use cases on continuation lines between diagrams was discussed and it was agreed it needs to be considered.
Proposed Solution
2008-10-13 Tanja: See Alan's proposal. Needs WG14 discussion and approval.
2009-02-09 Tanja: See refactoring in 1190.
Decision
Zermatt, 2010-01-11, WG13&WG14 modelling teams: It was agreed to separate the diagram representation from the WG14 Location related classes and continue to develop the WG13 graphics proposal to exchange graphics information only - WG14 to submit requirements (if any) to be able to remove InfGMLSupport (see 1306). WG14 will refactor Location-related classes, to represent only locations, but no graphic/geographic aspects (see issue 1305).
The primary use case for graphics exchange is to preserve original graphics matching the network model, it is part of the network model exchange.
